Abstract
Suppression and shift of period-doubling bifurcation due to a periodic perturbation is experimentally observed in the strain dynamics of a magnetically driven magnetostrictive ribbon. First experimental verification of the predicted scaling law relating the shift of the bifurcation point to the perturbation amplitude is made. The predicted switchlike nonlinearities in the perturbing signal around the bifurcation point are also observed. Keywords
