Abstract
Differences between yesterday's and tomorrow's young-old illustrate recent changes in mortality, work, and family patterns. These changes represent new potentials for families and life careers, but recent literature typically has been focused on problems associated with new aging patterns. Recent demographic and cultural changes may create new chasms between the worlds of men and women, but could also lead to increased convergence in their experiences. Keywords
