Abstract
Deviations of observed canal dimensions from those given by Lacey formulas are investigated. In the process, shape and size characteristics of canal section are found to give relationships between the basic parameters, P, R, and S, which suggest that one of these could be selected, but the other two then acquire unique values satisfying the two equations regarding shape and size. Design formulas are evolved on the basis of these equations, many of which are found to yield more accuracy than with the Lacey formulas. Keywords
