Abstract
Experimental G values for radiolysis of ferrous ion to ferric ion in the ferrous sulfate dosimeter were determimed as follows 15.8[plus or minus].0.5 molecules per 100 ev for 22-Mevp X-rays; 15.8 [plus or minus] 0.4 molecules per 100 ev for Co60 [gamma]-rays; 15.6[plus or minus] 0.5 molecules per 100 ev for Cs137 [gamma] -rays; and 14.6 [plus or minus] 0.4 molecules per 100 ev for 200-kvcp X-rays. These were compared with values in the literature. The errors introduced by the use of the effective photon energy instead of a full X-ray spectrum was small when water or tissue is substituted for dosimeter solution. Absorbtion coeffecients, G values, and formulas are presented for use with the ferrous sulfate dosimeter at various photon energies. Keywords
