Abstract
This paper presents a design and an implementation ofthe Bluetooth local positioning application. Positioning isbased on received power levels, which are converted todistance estimates according to a simple propagationmodel. The extended Kalman filter computes 3D positionestimate on the basis of distance estimates. With the usedBluetooth hardware, the mean absolute error ofpositioning was measured o be 3.76 m. The accuracy canbe improved if Bluetooth devices are able to measurereceived power levels more precisely. Keywords
