Optimum Composite Designs

Abstract
Four types of composite designs are optimized using the |X′X| criterion. These designs are: 1. A “symmetric” composite design (a composite design with “star point” distance equal to ±α) 2. A “symmetric” smallest composite design (a saturated composite design) 3. An asymmetric composite design (an asymmetric composite design has star point distance equal to (+l, −α)) 4. An asymmetric smallest composite design The comparison of these designs with other optimum designs is discussed. It is shown that symmetric composite designs are nearly optimum for experiments on a hypercube.
