Abstract
To the Editor: The paper by Brunner et al.1 contains much valuable information on patients with essential hypertension. As for the interpretation of these findings we find ourselves at variance with the authors on several key issues. In the first place, the notion that renin is a "vasculotoxic" substance has arisen from experiments with very high dosages that will rarely be encountered in human beings. It would therefore be preferable to state that vascular damage is related to the degree of hypertension.Secondly, the distinction between patients with different levels of plasma renin activity is an arbitrary one, since a . . .Keywords
