Abstract
To the Editor: The Brief Recording by Kelly et al., "Deafness after Topical Neomycin Wound Irrigation" (New Eng. J. Med. 280:1338, 1969) prompted me to review the information I have on neomycin-induced deafness. I found this review quite instructive. It was of particular interest to note that each time after a different preparation of neomycin became available, permitting a different route of administration of the drug, reports of ototoxicity, after the use of the drug by the new route, would appear.Early observations on ototoxicity after parenteral neomycin were those of Waisbren and Spink (Ann.
