Abstract
A many-electron theory for electric-quadrupole transitions is proposed. Correlated length and velocity results are evaluated for the transitions Li I 2s3d, 2p3p; Cs I 6s5d, Ti III 3d2F33d2P3, 3d4sD3; Cu II 3d10 S13d94sD1; C III 2s2S12p2D1, 2s3dD1, and Zn I 4s24s4dD1, and found to be in good agreement. For Cs I, relativistic effects were also large.
