Abstract
Presentation of CaseA 56-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of weakness of the shoulders, arms and neck.She had been well until three years previously, when she began to experience difficulty in swallowing solids. During the next two years the dysphagia progressed, and she lost 18 kg in weight. One year before entry she was admitted to another hospital, where a stricture was found in the lower portion of the esophagus; a thoracotomy was performed, with repair of the stricture and symptomatic improvement. Eight months before admission, while talking on the telephone, she became aware of loss . . .
