Abstract
A study was made of the influence of various mast cell dischargers on the normal localization of Evans' blue in the rat. It was shown that most of the mast cell dischargers decreased the renal or intestinal localization of the dye. Those which proved most potent for localizing the dye in the paw (one of the anaphylactoid shock organs) also significantly decreased the phagocytosis of Evans' blue in the spleen. Stilbamidine and, especially, hexadimethrine enhanced the accumulation of Evans' blue in the liver and the spleen; moreover, the latter completely inhibited blueing. When administered before Evans' blue, hexadimethrine localized the dye in the adrenals, the kidney, and the hypophysis, which are customary sites of hexadimethrine-induced lesions. The possible mechanism of the distribution of Evans' blue in various organs and the use of this technique to detect the localization of diseases are discussed. Keywords
