Abstract
This chapter focuses on functional manifestations of the digestive system disturbances of appetite. Disturbances of appetite may be quantitative or qualitative. Topics include mental anorexia (quantitative disturbance of the appetite due to lack of food), quantitative disturbance of the appetite due to excess, and elective anorexias (qualitative disturbances of the appetite). This chapter also includes distinct topics about the functional disturbance of the first three stages of digestion, gastric disturbances in nervous patients (a study which we have already taken up in previous works), functional modifications in elimination (nervous diarrhea and nervous constipation, and their consequences), and intestinal modifications properly so called.
