Abstract
80 UNDERGRADUATES RECEIVED 160 TRIALS ON A 50:50 SCHEDULE. THE STIMULI FOR THE DIFFERENT GROUPS DIFFERED IN THE NUMBER OF VARIABLE DIMENSIONS AND THE NUMBER OF CONSTANT ELEMENTS. THE RESPONSE MEASURE WAS PK, THE PROBABILITY THAT S WOULD COPY THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING CORRECT ANSWER AS A FUNCTION OF THE NUMBER (K) OF DIMENSION VALUES UNCHANGED BETWEEN THE PREVIOUS AND CURRENT TRIALS. THE VALUE OF PK INCREASED WITH INCREASED K, SHOWING THAT INCREASED SIMILARITY LEADS TO INCREASED COPYING. FOR THE K = 0 OR K = 1 CONDITION, PK WAS HIGHER FOR THE 1-DIMENSION GROUPS THAN FOR THE 4-DIMENSION GROUPS. THE NUMBER OF CONSTANT ELEMENTS PRODUCED NO MAIN EFFECT.
