Abstract
Two per cent ethylurethan considerably enhanced the fibrinolytic action of urokinase on preformed plasma clots. Addition of 2% ethylurethan, 3% ethyithiourea, and similar concentrations of other urea derivatives to human plasma prior to clotting with thrombin induced spontaneous dissolution of the clot within 24 hours on incubation. With incubation, 4% ethylurethan, dissolved in human plasma, produced marked fibrinolytic activity in the plasma which not only digested fibrin plates but also preformed plasma clots. Preformed bovine fibrin clots were dissolved by ethylurethan only in the presence of human plasma. It is speculated that the required plasma factor might be related to the proactivator. Keywords
