Abstract
Measurements of the Jahn-Teller splittings of the optical transition of divalent iron in the near infrared are reported for Fe, KFe, KMg:, FeSi:6O, Fe, and MgO:. The effect of the site symmetry of the ferrous ion on the magnitude of the splittings observed is discussed.
