Abstract
A novel dye laser based on the soluble conducting polymer poly[2‐methoxy, 5‐(2’ ethyl‐hexyloxy)‐p‐phenylenevinylene], MEH‐PPV, has been demonstrated. Laser action has been tested in a transverse cavity configuration where the conducting polymer laser was pumped by light pulses generated from the second harmonic radiation of a Q‐switched Nd:YAG laser. The performance of MEH‐PPV in solution as a laser dye was compared to that of rhodamine 6G in solution under identical conditions. The results indicate that the quantum yield of MEH‐PPV laser is comparable to that of rhodamine 6G.Keywords
