Abstract
Given the hopeless prognosis of lung cancer, patients in whom there is no evidence of contiguous spread or distant metastases should be studied for their ability to withstand pneumonectomy, with special emphasis on predicting postoperative cardiopulmonary function. Adding split function tests when results in routine testing are equivocal raises significantly the proportion of patients qualifying for surgery. Keywords
