Abstract
In brief: Our society is obsessed with excessive weight, yet the average weight of the population continues to increase. The result is an epidemic of dieting which, however, is not confined to overweight persons. Many people who are at or below their ideal weight are fearful of being or looking fat and are fighting a constant battle to eat less than they desire. This article discusses the physiological and psychological factors that influence the regulation of body weight and reviews several approaches to weight loss. Finally, the authors propose a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program for weight control. Keywords
