Abstract
The results of experiments on the relationship between field establishment of carrots and laboratory germination have shown that the use of a 10 °C germination test can be more informative than the standard germination test in distinguishing between the potential field emergence of different carrot seed lots. Under certain field conditions, such as those found early in the season in eastern Scotland, it is possible to use this germination percentage for the more accurate estimation of sowing rates needed to achieve specific plant populations.
