Abstract
Streptomycin (SM) was inactivated by cysteine; streptothrycin (ST) was not. A CCl4 soln. of I2 reversed the inhibition when added to SM solns. containing cysteine and shaken thoroughly. SM was also inhibited by 2-amino-ethanethiol but hardly by thioglycollic acid. Inhibition expts. were done by adding neutral solns. of the organic S compds. to SM or ST dissolved in neutral phosphate buffer. After several hrs. the solns. were tested against Bacillus subtilis by the Oxford cup method. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
