Abstract
Potential peripheral mechanisms that might contribute to the development of visceral hypersensitivity and ultimately to the altered sensations that characterise functional gastrointestinal disorders were examined by developing experimental models of gastric hyperalgesia. A direct link between alteration in behaviour and potential mechanisms of increased excitability of the gastric afferent innervation was found. Keywords
