700 Total Hip Replacements Experience With 6 Types

Abstract
This paper reports the statistics and a broad analysis of 700 total hip replacements performed by a single team with one operator in 4 years, from May, 1968 to November, 1972. It is our intent to help the reader analyze our results, rather than to tell him what to think. It is our opinion that 5 years' experience with total hip replacement operations qualifies the writer to make a definitive report and formulate major premises for debate. Our work is a reflection of the following masters of these technics, each of whom we either visited 2 or more times, and some of whom favored us with their demonstrations in our clinic: Professor Maurice Müller, Mr. Peter Ring, Mr. John Charnley, Mr. John Crawford Adams, Mr. G. K. McKee, and J. Watson-Farrar, PD Dr. Med. B. G. Weber, PD Dr. Med. Franz Endler, Professor H. W. Buchholz, Professor F. Pauwels, Mr. J. N. Wilson, John S. Scales, Dr. J. J. Herbert, and many of our visitors who left us with critical suggestions and recommendations. The unsatisfactory results reported in this series of 700 cases can be attributed to our own failings, and not in any way to be blamed upon these men or their methods.
