Abstract
Those of US who after the end of World War II invaded the field of industrial operations research bolstered our courage with the thought that there was enough similarity between military and industrial operations so that the methods used to solve military problems might be used in the analysis of industrial problems as well. In retrospect, it is not entirely obvious that this has been the case. To a casual glance there seem to be many differences, particularly in the measures of effectiveness by which the success of operations is judged. Keywords
