Abstract
Rats born to and reared by mothers fed protein-free amino acid rations were, after weaning, fed a ration consisting mainly of rolled oats and casein. During the first-six weeks of realimentation, the weight gain of these rats was about 80% of that observed when the same ration is fed to young from mothers fed the rolled-casein ration. As a result of infantile malnutrition male rats remained permanently stunted despite realimentation with an adequate ration. Reproduction, lactation and survival of the young were not adversely affected after females whose infantile growth had been retarded were fed, after weaning, an adequate ration. Keywords
