Abstract
Over a period of 15 mo., 215 scats of leopards were collected in the Tai National Park of the Ivory Coast. Their sizes and consistency were precisely identified. Undigested hairs in leopard scats were specified with the help of a key to the identification of hairs and a reference collection of hairs. Analysis of fecal samples and observations of leopard-kills show a total of 32 spp. of prey. A breakdown of prey species shows 99% mammals with a predominance of bovids, followed by monkeys and rodents. The relative frequency of different mammals in the prey, their size classes and the relatively large proportion of arboreal species show that the leopard is an opportunist, and it preys on any species that is available. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
