Paramyloidosis with Diabetes Mellitus and Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage

Abstract
PARAMYLOIDOSIS (or primary amyloidosis)1 is a rare condition, only about 70 cases having been reported in the literature. Paramyloid deposition is widespread in the body, and as a result its clinical manifestations are protean. The case reported below is interesting in that it further illustrates this point, and presents prominent involvement of the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas, with resulting gastrointestinal bleeding and diabetes mellitus.A review of the literature on amyloidosis and paramyloidosis discloses that classification of the several types is unsettled. Indeed, there is evidence that there may be only a minor, though fundamental, difference between these two conditions. . . .
