Abstract
A modification of Foerster''s rhizotomy was presented for the treatment of spasticity in [human] cerebral palsy: functional posterior rhizotomy. The selection of the roots/rootlets to be sectioned was based upon the analysis of the reflex responses to intraoperative lumbar dorsal root stimulation. With this method it was possible to selectively interfere with the pathological circuits responsible for hypertonia, saying proprioceptive afferents necessary for motor reeducation. The clinical results on hypertonia were the same as for total or partial rhizotomies, but sides effects (ataxia, hypotonia) were considerably reduced. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
