Sunflower Insect Control1

Abstract
Larvae of the sunflower moth caused severe injury at one location. Results of control expts. indicated that 10% DDT-40% S, 20% toxaphene-40% S, or 3% gamma benzene hexachloride-5% DDT-40% S applied at the rate of 15 lbs. per acre were effective in reducing the injury. The first application should be made when the flowers first appear. An avg. yield of 1102 lbs. sunflower seed per acre was produced at the Brazos River Laboratory as compared to 234 lbs. at the Bluebonnet Farm. Increases in yield of 90-180% were produced as a result of insecticide applications.
