Abstract
Superficial deposits of the Salin-de-Giraud salt-works can be divided into three sedimentary domains : detrital deposits, laminated deposits of algal mats with Ca-Mg carbonates, and gypsum crusts. Within these domains, the salt pans are differentiated by their salinity (human intervention) and show particular topographic areas changing according to the rythm of the sea-water inflows into the salt-works. The interaction between salinity and topography rules the development of cyano-bacterian populations, the deposit of particles and the elaboration of gypsum crusts, which are distributed in characteristic sedimentological zones.
