Abstract
The indirect immunoenzyme test was performed by conjugating anti-vervet γ-globulin and horseradish peroxidase with the aid of glutaraldehyde. Serial dilutions of sera from healthy and infected vervets were permitted to act on smears prepared with B. turicatae, B. parkerii, and B. hermsii, respectively. The conjugated globulin was then applied. The results were visualized by 3,3’-diaminobenzidine and hydrogen peroxide treatment using the optical microscope. One of 27 sera from healthy animals gave a positive reaction in 1:4 dilution. The sera of the infected animals gave positive results with the homologous strain of Borrelia except in one instance. Cross-reactions were frequent. The test compared favorably with the immobilizine titration method. Keywords
