Abstract
Many studies have confirmed that the hippocampus plays an important role in some types of memory. As research on the neuroanatomy of memory progresses, it is increasingly apparent that memory is also supported by cortical regions that are nearby and closely interconnected with the hippocampal formation. This chapter reviews what is currently known about the subregions, layers, and gross anatomical connectivity of these regions in rats and monkeys. A topic that must be addressed in order to review the current status of corticohippocampal anatomy is nomenclature. Keywords
