Abstract
Based on clinical observation, relevant developmental theory, and findings from major studies of homosexuality, this paper discusses homosexuality in the college years. The focus is on the issue of changing or unsettled sexual orientation in men and women. Male-female asymmetries in development of sexual preference are described. Survey data on lability of sexual preference and age of set orientation are reviewed. These are used to elucidate clinical observations of college students concerned about their sexual orientation. Male and female concerns and patterns are seen as psychodynamically and socioculturally different phenomena. Keywords
