PRODUCTION OF ANTIBACTERIAL SUBSTANCES BY BENTHIC TROPICAL MARINE ALGAE

Abstract
A number of benthic algae collected on the west coast of Mexico and Central America have been shown to produce materials that inhibit the growth of gram-positive bacteria. Gram-negative bacteria were not affected. The inhibitory materials are soluble in water and in ethanol.
