Abstract
Alopecurine, a pentacyclic Lycopodium alkaloid, has been shown to possess structure 1. The structure, including the absolute stereochemistry, was established by X-ray analysis of debenzoylalopecurine hydrobromide, and further confirmed by X-ray analysis of alopecurine methobromide. Some chemical and spectroscopic properties of alopecurine are described. The isolation of four alkaloids in addition to those already reported from L. alopecuroides is described. These alkaloids include the known compound fawcettidine and three new bases, acetyldebenzoylalopecurine, alolycopine, and lycopecurine. Keywords
