Abstract
Using a technique based essentially on group theory and an ansatz inspired by the old instanton analysis, we obtain a simplified set of differential equations expressing self-duality for eight-dimensional gauge theories with an SO(8) gauge group. We obtain explicit solutions, some of which, with spherical symmetry, have finite action for a theory defined by a Lagrangian of higher order. Keywords
