Abstract
Methods of construction of d.c. operated He/Ne laser tubes using optical contact bonds are described. Optimum values of various parameters for operation at 632.8 mm have been establised and a robust single-mode laser is described which is very suitable for use as a light source in interferometry. It is relatively easy to construct and can be dismantled for major maintenance such as refilling. Keywords
