Abstract
The equations for the amplitude and phase of the second-harmonic signal generated in a nonlinear quadratic medium by an exciting ultrashort primary pulse are derived. These equations are approximately solved for the case of negligible dispersion effects. Explicit expressions for the shape and phase functions of the second-harmonic pulse are obtained. Keywords
