Abstract
Two cases of optic hypoplasia associated with neurological abnormalities are reported and the anatomical, pathophysiological and genetic aspects of septo-optic dysplasia are discussed. This syndrome is not homogeneous. Septo-optic dysplasia may occur as a consequence of an embryopathy; it may not be due to a genetically determined failure of development. Genetic counseling for the syndrome is discussed.
