Abstract
The effect of the initial exogenous C/N ratio on the degree of autolysis in cultures of A. niger was studied. For C/N ratios between 0.75:1 and 100:1 (grams per gram), the degree of autolysis (.alpha.) continuously decreased from an average value of 72.5 to 16.0%, respectively. There was a linear correlation between the .**GRAPHIC**. ratio and the percentage degree of autolysis (.alpha.%) represented by the regression line .alpha. = 70.74 - .**GRAPHIC**. (r = -0.87). It can be concluded that the degree of autolysis is profoundly influenced by the C/N ratio initially present in the culture medium. Keywords
