Abstract
Effective control of southern corn rootworm, Diabrotica duodecim-punctata was obtained with 2 insecticides mixed with soil as a dust at planting time or applied as a liquid after germination. DDT 3% dust was used 1 to 7 grams per hill of corn and hexachlorocyclohexane 4.7% dust (0.8% y isomer) 5 to 7 gm. The latter caused plant injury in some later tests. The liquids contained 5 gm. per liter of 50% powders of same insecticides. About 100 ml. injd. around the several young plants in the hill gave protection from further injury, and half that amt. gave partial protection.
