Abstract
The author describes a course she teaches about interpretive research methods. The course is di erent from many methods courses in that it does not ask students to conduct field research. Instead of doing ethnography or considering the ''how-to'' of methods, students are asked to read ethnography and to focus on why ethnographers do what they do. One unit, about validity, is considered in detail. Keywords
