Sensitivity of the (He3,t) Reaction to Final-State Configurations

The reactions ${}_{}{}^{27}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Al}({}_{}{}^3{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{He},t){}_{}{}^{27}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Si}$ and ${}_{}{}^{23}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Na}({}_{}{}^3{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{He},t){}_{}{}^{23}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Mg}$ have been studied at a bombarding energy of 18 MeV. Within each nucleus angular distributions leading to states of the same spin and parity have been found to show a pronounced dependence on the configuration of the final state, contrary to previous suggestions. Such a dependence is consistent with the results of microscopic distorted-wave Born-approximation calculations.
