Abstract
We present x-ray-photoemission-spectroscopy (XPS) results for pyridine molecules adsorbed on a polycrystalline Ag surface in ultrahigh vacuum. Coverage calculations based on the integrated XPS line shapes support our contention that enhanced adsorbate Raman scattering originates mainly from the surface layer of molecules. XPS and Raman spectra indicate that the pyridine molecules are bound to the Ag surface in at least two sites. Keywords
