Abstract
The structure types of Rh7Mg44 and Mg6Pd are described by means of packing octahedra and tetrahedra. The host structure common to the two types is a cubic intergrowth of two different building units. One unit has the Mg atoms arranged as the anions in Keggin's ion (PW12040 3-), and the other is an octahedrally capped block of the pyrochlore structure.
