Abstract
It is common practice for authors of geophysics textbooks to correct for the Bouguer effect by using the gravitational attraction due to an infinite horizontal slab of material (Dobrin, 1960, p. 189; Griffiths and King, 1969, p. 142; Heiland, 1940, p. 137; and Howell, 1959, p. 221). Such a slab of thickness h and density ρ will give rise to an acceleration [Formula: see text] where γ is the universal gravitational constant. Keywords
