Abstract
A direct gas chromatographic method of analysis has been developed for the quantitative determination of each of the five isomers of diaminotoluene. Gas chromatography was chosen because of its demonstrated ability to separate similar isomeric compounds; for example, the position isomers of xylene and nitrotoluene (1–7). No direct gas chromatographic procedure has been reported, however, for the separation of the 3,4-, 2,3-, 2,4-, 2,5-, and 2,6-diaminotoluenes. It is the objective of this paper to describe what is believed to be the first direct gas chromatographic method for the separation and determination of these five isomers.
