Abstract
The results reported here came from observations on living animals (in Hertfordshire, England), deductions from culturing, and dissection of preserved material for gut contents. C. s. strenuus has a mixed diet, basically herbivorous on a variety of phytoplankton found in the pond, with an animal supplement. The carnivorous part of the diet consisted of soft parts gained by tearing the animal and sucking out the contents. It seemed incapable of taking in any skeletal parts of larger organisms. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
