Abstract
A 2-μsec-duration electron beam from an induction linac is used to drive a free electron laser (FEL). Beam generation and transport are critical problem areas which have been addressed. Radiation from various wigglers has been analyzed, and both cyclotron and FEL modes are present if an axial guide field is used. Experiments with a helical wiggler and no guide field have been very successful in eliminating cyclotron emission and maximizing FEL radiation. Power levels in excess of 1 MW with corresponding efficiencies of > 1% have been observed in super-radiant experiments. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
