Abstract
The solvolysis of amine–trichloroborane adducts in aqueous ethanol is first-order in the complex. The first-order rate constants for the solvolyses in 25%(v/v) ethanol–water decrease in the order: 4-picoline > pyridine > 2-picoline ≫ trimethylamine. Heats of formation of these crystalline pyridine adducts have been measured calorimetrically. A mechanism is suggested for the solvolysis. Keywords
