Abstract
The crystal structure of dipyridine-cadmium tetracyanonickelate, Cd(C5H5N)2Ni(CN)4, was determined from three-dimensional Weissenberg data. The crystals are monoclinic, space group C2/m, with unit-cell dimensions a = 15.881(4) Å, b = 7.540(6) Å, c = 7.097(9) Å and β = 106°50′; the cell contains 2 molecules. A least-squares refinement excluding H atoms led to an R value of 0.08 using 401 reflections. The structure consist of polymeric layers of [Cd–Ni(CN)4]∞ which are hold together by pyridine molecules bound directly to cadmium. This structure resembles that of Hofmann-type benzene clathrates, M(NH3)2Ni(CN)4 · 2C6H6; but it is not a clathrate since the pyridine is bound directly to the metal M.Keywords
